Laura Margulius
BHGRE Reliance Partners
Berkeley
Connecting Culture, Community, and Care in Berkeley
Berkeley-area REALTOR® Laura Margulius is known as being hardworking, dedicated and very humble. “She doesn’t toot her own horn,” says her supervising broker, June McDaniels, “but she works tirelessly every day to do what she’s committed to, under the radar. She has wrapped her entire soul around the community. Whether Laura is teaching, performing, cooking or fund raising, how she pours her heart and soul into it shows through.” In addition to working hard as a REALTOR®, Margulius supports the Capoeira Arts Foundation (CAF), a cultural arts foundation dedicated to raising awareness of Afro-Brazilian art forms by providing a safe space that promotes health and belonging. Capoeira is a traditional Brazilian form of dance/martial art laced with history, self-defense, mutual play and storytelling. Margulius has volunteered with CAF for 36 years. She has evolved from a student of Capoeira to a cornerstone of the organization — contributing over 1,200 hours of volunteer service in the last year and a half, alone. She provides translation services, maintains the community center, organizes meals, and assists with short-term housing for temporarily unhoused members.
Her work has sustained year-round programming, fostered partnerships with local schools for after-school enrichment, and supported like-minded organizations throughout the East Bay. Margulius even used her real estate expertise to help CAF secure two new spaces for their cultural center. She has supported CAF’s building fund for essential repairs, code compliance and maintenance. A longtime Berkeley resident, Margulius serves as a liaison between CAF and local organizations, inviting and collaborating with community groups to produce impactful, free events across Berkeley and the East Bay. Overall, her efforts have helped over 4,000 people of all ages find a safe community, belonging, and connection.
Thanks to Margulius’s dedication and hard work, C.A.R. will donate $1,000 to the Capoeira Arts Foundation.
